Jaipur. Even though the Supreme Court has declared triple talaq illegal, the cases of triple talaq have not stopped at present. Cases of triple talaq come to light every day in different areas of the state. The second case of triple talaq has come to light in Jaipur city in a month. The latest case is from Ramganj police station area, where a married woman has filed a case against her husband. The victim alleges that her husband has been beating her for the last several days. Distressed, she came to Pehar. Recently he came to Pehar and beat him in the presence of his family members. Later he uttered triple talaq and ran away.

Allegation of torture for demand of dowry

The victim says that she got married 10 years ago in 2014. A few days after the marriage, the husband started harassing her by demanding dowry. She started being harassed mentally and physically in her in-laws house. After continuous harassment for several years, the victim and her two children were thrown out of the house. The victim came to her father’s house and started living. The distressed victim lodged a complaint of domestic violence. After filing the complaint, a meeting was held at his house on January 29 on the pretext of compromise.

also tried to kill by strangulation

According to the report lodged at Ramganj police station, on January 29, a meeting was held at the victim’s house regarding the settlement. Then her husband also came to the meeting. As the conversation started in the meeting, the husband started beating his wife. According to the victim, he not only beat her up in front of her family but also tried to strangle her to death. The family members saved the victim with great difficulty. During this time the husband pronounced triple talaq on the married woman and went away.

provision of three years imprisonment

In the year 2017, the Constitution bench of five judges of the Supreme Court had declared triple talaq unconstitutional in its decision. The Supreme Court declared the 1400-year-old practice unconstitutional and asked the Central Government to make a law. After the decision of the Supreme Court, the Central Government, while making a law, made it a crime to end a marriage by saying or writing ‘talaq’ thrice. A maximum punishment of three years imprisonment was provided for this crime. However, many petitions were filed in the Supreme Court challenging this law.
