Union Minister for Rural Development and Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan today held a press conference at Pusa, New Delhi regarding the programme of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. Shri Chouhan informed that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi will transfer the first installment of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin to the beneficiaries of Jharkhand state on 15th September 2024, to the beneficiaries of Gujarat state on 16th September 2024 and to the beneficiaries of all other states including Odisha on 17th September 2024 in which the election code of conduct is not applicable. He said that food, clothing and shelter are the basic needs of the poor.
Union Minister informed that Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will distribute sanction letters to around 20,000 beneficiaries of Jharkhand state. Apart from this, more than Rs 5 crore will be transferred directly to the bank account of the beneficiaries through a single click. In addition, housewarming ceremony of newly constructed houses of 46,000 beneficiaries will be held. This is a mega plan which will be an impetus for further implementation of the scheme in the coming days. In the current financial year, Jharkhand has been given a target of 1,13,195 houses against which an amount of Rs. 187.79 crore has been released.
Shri Chouhan informed that Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will be in the state of Gujarat on 16th September 2024. More than 6.50 lakh houses have been constructed in the last ten years in the state of Gujarat. In the current financial year, Gujarat has been given a target of 54,135 houses against which an amount of Rs. 99.1 crore has been released. During the program of Prime Minister, an amount of about Rs 93 crore will be transferred to the account of 31,000 beneficiaries in the state and housewarming ceremony will be celebrated in 35,000 completed houses.
Union Minister Shri Shivraj Singh informed that on 17th September, 2024 Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s has organized a program at the national level in the state of Odisha under which sanction letters will be distributed to 10 lakh beneficiaries of various states, digital transfer of the first installment of Rs 3180 crore will be released directly to the bank account of the beneficiaries and 26 lakh beneficiaries will enter their new houses with their families. During the program, the “Awas + 2024” app will also be unveiled by Prime Minister, which aims to ensure the allotment of pucca houses by including eligible beneficiaries in the list. In the current financial year, Odisha has been given a target of 22,572 houses against which an amount of Rs. 41.32 crore has been released.
The Union Minister said that the Central Government is launching the fourth phase of the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojana (PMGSY). Under the scheme, 62,500 km of all-weather roads will be constructed to provide connectivity to 25,000 eligible unconnected habitations. Along with the roads, bridges will also be constructed as per requirement. He said that an amount of more than Rs 70 thousand crore will be spent on the construction of roads under the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojana and funds have been arranged for this.
Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) is one of the flagship programmes of the Government of India which aims to achieve the objective of “Housing for All” by 2024 by providing 2.95 crore pucca houses with basic amenities to all homeless households and families living in kutcha and dilapidated houses in rural areas in convergence with other schemes.
Towards the upliftment of rural India, this scheme which was launched by Hon’ble Prime Minister in the year 2016, aims to ensure not only housing but also all basic amenities along with housing. Under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin, beneficiaries also get the benefit of 90-95 days of wages to build their houses under MGNREGA as well as toilets in PMAY-G houses in coordination with other welfare schemes such as Swachh India Mission, Ujjwala Yojana, etc. Clean fuel and electricity facilities are being ensured. Under the scheme, women members of PMAY-G families are also being included in Self Help Groups (SHGs) through the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM), so that rural women get better livelihood opportunities. In the next five years, provision will also be made to install solar roof tops to the beneficiaries through convergence with PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme.
Under the scheme, the earlier target was 2.95 crore Pucca houses, against which 100% houses have been sanctioned on time and 2.66 crore houses have been completed. In the last ten years, 3.42 crore houses have been constructed under rural housing scheme.
Realizing the success of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin and the need for more rural households, the scheme has been continued and construction of additional 2 crore houses has been approved in the coming 5 years. These 2 crore new houses will be built in the next five years at a cost of more than Rs 3.06 lakh crore. Out of the newly approved target of 2 crore, an amount of Rs. 31,73,016 crore has been released to the 16 States by the Ministry.
Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin is not just a scheme but a hope for the common citizen. It is the basis for respect, empowerment and building a better future. This scheme reflects the commitment of Hon’ble Prime Minister to the development of rural India.
