A two-day Chapter Convention on Quality Concepts 2024 with the theme “Investing in People, building a Better Future” was inaugurated today at the Multipurpose Hall of Visakhapatnam steel plant. The Convention is being organized by “Quality Circle Forum of India, Visakhapatnam Chapter” on 19th and 20th September 2024 at Ukkunagaram.
Delivering the welcome address, Shri G Gandhi, Chairman, QCFI Visakhapatnam Chapter & CGM(HR), RINL thanked all the participating organizations for nominating their delegates not only from local organizations but also from outstation organizations located at Mumbai and Port Blair. Sri Gandhi expressed that the Convention would be a good platform to “Learn from each Other” and for exchange of creative ideas.
Chief Guest of the day, Shri B. Prahalad Reddy, Executive Vice-Chairman, ATC Tires AP Pvt.Ltd., while inaugurating the two-day Convention said that the concept of Quality Circles is one such unique tool for having an impact on productivity, quality, cost, safety, customer satisfaction, teamwork and motivation. Investing in people would lead to build a better future both for the individual and for the organization.
Guest of Honour Shri Katta Ravi Chander, Director (Quality Operations), Pfizer, while delivering his address stressed upon the need for continuous improvement mindset at workplace and the need for investing in people for “self and mutual development” that would eventually help the organizations for a better future.
Shri M.E.C.V. Sagar, Secretary QCFI Visakhapatnam Chapter, speaking on the occasion, informed that this year, a record number of 129 case studies are being presented in the Convention making it one of the biggest events of QCFI Visakhapatnam Chapter. He said in addition to case study presentations on quality concepts, various events like Model Exhibition, Cultural events, Knowledge Test, Quiz, Poster, Poem, Essay, Slogan and Crossword Competitions are also being organized during the 2-day Convention.
A large number of delegates from 34 Organizations are participating in this convention and will be presenting Case Studies on Quality Circles, Lean Quality Circles, 5S Workplace Management System, Kaizen, Six Sigma and Lean Six Sigma Concepts. The Convention brings industry personnel together to present their small group activities and continual improvement case studies and showcase their best practices adopted at their workplace.
The inauguration was followed by a Seminar on the Convention theme “Investing in People, Building a Better Future” by Shri Imtiyaz Arshad, Chief General Manager-Skill Development, HPCL and CEO & Secretary of the Skill Development Institute, Visakhapatnam. Shri Imtiyaz while highlighting the importance of Learning & Skill Development explained in detail how the organizations need to improve the ‘Voice of Process’ to meet the requirement of ‘Voice of Customer’. He said in the dynamic business environment, ‘Quality is what the customer wants, not what the Company thinks’. To deliver the best output to the customer, he said organisations need to ensure best inputs and best process. To achieve this, both the individuals and organizations need to invest in learning and upskilling. Even if the system is not supportive, one need to enhance one’s capability, be proactive, think win-win, we need to invest in people for effective application of Continuous Quality Improvement Concepts like Quality Circles, Kaizen, 5S etc. that would create a better future and overall development of the business organizations.
On this occasion, all the delegates have also performed ‘Swachhata Pledge’ in line with the Swachhata Hi Seva 2024 campaign being observed by RINL from 14th September to 2nd October, 2024 as per the directive of the Steel Ministry.
