Delhi, September 2024 – In a significant move to enhance sports infrastructure in Agartala, the Agartala Sports Department, in collaboration with Gallant Sports, has successfully developed a state-of-the-art FIH-certified hockey ground. The project, part of the Khelo India Scheme, marks a new era for hockey in the region, providing top-notch facilities for athletes to train and compete.

The journey to this transformation wasn’t easy. The project faced a major challenge early on due to an uneven ground level, with some areas being more than a foot higher than others. Gallant Sports took on this challenge, meticulously levelling the ground to meet the required standards. The uniqueness of this project lies in the fact that it is not only a standard-size hockey ground but also one that is certified by the Federation of International Hockey (FIH), ensuring it meets the highest global standards.

Nasir Ali, CEO of Gallant Sports, shared his thoughts on the project, stating, “We are proud to be part of the Agartala Hockey Project. It was crucial to deliver a hockey ground that meets international standards, and now, with the FIH certification, we have succeeded in creating a space that will nurture talent and inspire young players. This project is not just about building a facility; it’s about providing opportunities for the future generation of athletes to thrive. When young players have access to world-class infrastructure, they feel motivated and encouraged to pursue their sporting dreams. We believe that by creating such spaces, we’re not only improving local sports infrastructure but also helping to foster a culture of excellence and dedication in Indian hockey. Our vision is to see this ground become a training hub for future champions, where passion meets potential, and where local talent can compete on a global stage.”

Work on the project began in December 2023, and the new facility is now set to provide a platform for budding athletes in the region to excel. Designed to meet the highest international standards, the hockey ground will enable local athletes to train in a professional environment, preparing them for both national and international competitions. This development goes beyond just creating a physical space; it is part of a broader vision to elevate sports participation at the grassroots level.

By offering access to world-class facilities, the project aims to inspire young players to take up the sport and provide them with the tools they need to refine their skills. This initiative is also aligned with the government’s commitment to nurturing talent through the Khelo India scheme, which focuses on developing sports culture across the country. The ground is expected to serve as a vital resource for schools, local sports clubs, and aspiring athletes, creating a pipeline for the next generation of hockey players who can compete on the world stage. Through projects like this, the region is poised to become a breeding ground for future hockey stars, ensuring long-term benefits for the community and the nation.
