Mumbai, March 2025: From Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures and starring Jason Momoa and Jack Black, “A Minecraft Movie,” directed by Jared Hess, is the first-ever big screen, live-action adaptation of Minecraft, the best-selling video game of all time. The film also stars Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, Sebastian Hansen, with Jennifer Coolidge. The film will hit theaters on April 4, 2025 in 3D and IMAX 3D in Hindi and English.
Taking on the role of Steve is Jack Black, the overgrown kid who no one understands on Earth but who finds the portal into the Minecraft world, and he is finally able to fulfil his creative imagination.
There were so many reasons for Jack Black to be a part of “A Minecraft Movie” But what clinched it was Black’s experience with the game. “My family are Minecrafters,” he says. “I played Minecraft back in the day with my sons, because I wanted to speak their language. My boys were like, ‘You have to do it. It’s Minecraft, Dad, don’t be dumb. Do it.’”
Adding further about the Minecraft world and how much gamers love it, Black says, “I can feel it out there, all of the Minecrafters that are excited about this movie. I think there’s a lot of people out there who can’t believe it’s really happening, that it’s really real. I could feel it when I posted about it, that, ‘Oh, I’m gonna be in Minecraft’ post where I just did a photograph of me reading a Minecraft for Dummies book, and it got millions of likes, and it was, “Oh, it’s bubbling out there.” It’s a phenomenon; this game has been loved by millions and millions all over the world for years now, and I think this movie is a big deal for a lot of people, because now it’s generational. There’s kids who have grown up and are out in the world working and living and have families of their own. It’s been that long that the game has been part of our world, so it’ll be cool to finally bring that universe into cinemas.”
