Hyderabad, 30th March 2025Swarg Vatika, a pioneering initiative by Swarg Vatika Trust along with the Telangana Government, continues to redefine the concept of final resting places with its commitment to eco-friendly and compassionate funeral services. Strategically located in RTC Colony, Trimulgherry, Swarg Vatika has transformed a former garbage bin and drainage lake into a serene and environmentally conscious cremation ground, offering solace and dignity to bereaved families.

Swarg Vatika is marking a key milestone in its journey towards sustainability and community welfare, by unveiling several new eco-friendly facilities, today. National Covid Warrior Padma Shri Jitender Singh Shunty, inaugurated the Medical Centre; Shri N. Sri Ganesh, MLA Cantonment; dedicated the Rooftop Solar Plants and the new LPG-based crematorium and Shri Madhuka Naik, CEO, Cantonment Board, unveiled the Gow Cast Manufacturing Facility. Founder Trustee & President Shri Surender Pal Singh spoke about the facilities at Swarg Vatika.

Shri N. Sri Ganesh, speaking on the occasion said, Swarg Vatika is not just a crematorium, it is a serene, eco-friendly space that many passersby mistake for a lush green park. With its beautifully maintained landscape and tranquil surroundings, it truly symbolizes the journey to Swarg beginning right here. It is a privilege to have such a green and sustainable crematorium within the Secunderabad Cantonment constituency. Moreover, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the trust for establishing a medical center that offers much-needed relief to the poor and needy, especially when quality healthcare remains unaffordable for many in private hospitals. Swarg Vatika stands unparalleled in the entire city, setting a benchmark for how crematoriums can be transformed into dignified, peaceful spaces. Shri Surender Pal Singh, with the support of a few like-minded individuals, took the initiative to create what is now a model crematorium. His unwavering dedication to this noble cause is truly commendable.  On behalf of the Government, I assure you that we will extend all necessary support to the trust in its continued efforts to serve the community.

Padma Shri Jitender Singh Shunty, said, money is not everything in life. We come into this world empty-handed and leave the same way, our wealth does not accompany us on our final journey. The true measure of our existence lies in the impact we make and the lives we touch. The COVID-19 pandemic was a stark reminder of both humanity’s kindness and its cruelty. While many went out of their way to help the needy, some in the medical industry exploited the crisis, demanding exorbitant fees and even withholding the bodies of the deceased until payments were made. This inhumane practice deeply pained me. As a core group member of the National Human Rights Commission, one of the first initiatives I facilitated was ensuring that hospitals release a deceased patient’s body within two hours, regardless of pending bills. Any hospital failing to comply now faces an FIR. Another crucial step we have taken is to make the government bear the funeral expenses of the poor, ensuring that no one is denied dignity in death due to financial constraints. Shri Surender Pal Singh is a true role model for all of us. His selfless service, without any expectation of personal gain, is an inspiration. His contributions remind us that real wealth is found in acts of kindness and service to others.

Shri Surender Pal Singh, Founder Trustee & President, Swarg Vatika Trust; said, Swarg Vatika was born 12 years ago, since then we have been contributing and improving upon the facilities. This is a public private partnership with the government of Telangana, they gave us 3 acres for setting up this Swarg Vatika, there has been an investment close to 5 crores for the entire set-up, all this money came through donations, we are fortunate that whenever an idea crops up, we don’t have to ask for funds, they come to us without effort. We have very healthy corpus of 92 lakhs which has never been used in the past 12 years, which serves as a reserve.

Shri Ranjan Sood, Founder Trustee & General Secretary, Swarg Vatika Trust; said, the new medical facility will immensely benefit the poor and needy.

The new Medical Centre offers diagnostic, dental, physiotherapy, ENT services, and generic medicines at nearly 30% lower than prevailing market rates, benefiting middle-class and underprivileged families. The two Rooftop Solar Power Plants fulfill the 100% green energy needs of the crematorium. The Gow Cast manufacturing facility promotes sustainable cremation alternatives. The dedicated online platform launched today will provide real-time updates, facilitate digital memorials, and offer seamless access to funeral services. The new LPG based crematorium will enable environmentally friendly cremation.

Swarg Vatika Trust – A Decade of Commitment to Green Practices

  • The Lush greenery and serene landscaping at Swarg Vatika create a peaceful and eco-friendly environment for visitors and bereaved families.
  • The trust uses Gowcast, an eco-friendly alternative, made from cow dung, for cremation. Adopting Gowcast helps conserve trees and promote sustainable practices for a greener future. Traditionally, cremating a single body requires approximately two fully grown trees, but Gowcast significantly reduces wood consumption, protecting the environment.
  • The Trust has deployed two new AC hearse vans, for the last mile journey along with body freezer boxes.
  • Swarg Vatika Trust installed lockers for preserving the ashes, which ensures a respectful and secure place for families to collect remains at their convenience. Swarg Vatika has remained steadfast in its mission to integrate eco-friendly practices into last rites ceremonies. The facility has continuously upgraded its services, ensuring cleanliness, adherence to Vedic traditions, and sustainable innovations, including:
  • Adoption of modern LPG furnaces, reducing wood usage by 25%.
  • Construction of a cast iron steel structure for natural piers.
  • Air-conditioned waiting halls for manual, LPG cremations.
  • Mortuary storage for up to four bodies, addressing the need for extended preservation.
  • Free cremation for unclaimed bodies and a 50% discount for BPL families.
  • collaboration with LV Prasad Eye Hospital, Swarg Vatika Trust is encouraging eye donation, by offering free cremation for donors.

A Legacy of Social Responsibility

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Swarg Vatika extended its support by providing free oxygen concentrators to those in need. Its commitment to social welfare continues through accessible funeral services and medical facilities that prioritize affordability and dignity.

emphasizing the commitment to eco-friendly cremation, social responsibility, and innovative funeral services that blend tradition with sustainability. With these advancements, Swarg Vatika reinforces its vision of merging tradition with innovation, ensuring that the final journey of loved ones is conducted with respect, compassion, and environmental responsibility.
