Upon receiving the information, Baramulla Police promptly took the sculpture into safe custody at Police Station Sheeri to ensure its protection. Recognising the historical and archaeological importance of the find, the police coordinated with the Directorate of Archives, Archaeology & Museums, J&K, for further action.
On December 26, 2025, following due procedure and official directions, the sculpture identified by experts as Ma Durga was formally handed over by Baramulla Police to officials of the Archaeology Wing, Srinagar.
