Fact Check: Maliciously doctored video targeting Dr Bhagwat debunked; no call to avoid Dalits or OBCs from Indian Army

Follow us on:

NEW DELHI: A doctored and misleading video clip falsely attributed to Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Sarsanghchalak Dr Mohan Bhagwat is circulating widely on social media platform X, claiming that he advocated the removal of Dalits, Other Backwards Classes (OBCs), Muslims and Christians from the Indian Army. A thorough fact-check confirms that the claim is entirely false and the viral video has been digitally altered to misrepresent Bhagwat’s views.

The viral post alleges that Dr Bhagwat said, “If the Indian Army is to be kept sacred, then all untouchables (Dalits, backward classes, Muslims, Christians) will have to be removed from the army,” further claiming that 50 per cent of Dalits and OBCs would be removed by 2028. These assertions have been categorically debunked.

Claim Vs Reality

Claim: RSS Sarsanghchalak Dr Mohan Bhagwat stated that 50 per cent of Dalits and OBCs should be removed from the Indian Army to “keep it sacred”.

Fact: Dr Mohan Bhagwat never made any such statement. The viral clip has been manipulated using digital editing, with audio and visual distortions falsely attributed to him. No verified speech, transcript, interview or RSS publication contains any such remarks.

Independent verification of the original video reveals that Dr Bhagwat’s actual speech had no reference whatsoever to caste, religion or exclusion from the armed forces. The inflammatory claims were inserted to provoke outrage and deepen social fault lines.

The Indian Army, constitutionally and institutionally, is a merit-based, secular force, and neither the RSS nor Dr Bhagwat has ever advocated exclusion based on caste or religion. On the contrary, Dr Bhagwat has repeatedly spoken about social harmony, national unity and inclusiveness, stressing that all Indians are equal stakeholders in the nation’s future.
