Pakistan: ‘Justice for Kailash Kohli’, Sindh erupts over the death of Hindu farmer who advocated minority rights

Follow us on:

In a brutal and horrific episode, a young Hindu farmer Kailash Kohli, has been shot dead in the Sindh province of Pakistan. Massive protests have erupted across Sindh and demonstrators including the members from the Hindu community and the human rights groups have hit the streets questionning the safety and security of the lives of the minority Hindus in Pakistan under the indoctrinated rule of Islamabad. The 25 year old Kailah Kohli is also said to be a local activist who was striving to protect the minority rights in Pakistan. The latest horrific episode also illustrates the spiking atrocities on the Hindu community in Pakistan coupled with inconclusive investigations, lack of accountability and impunity from punishment for the culprits.

Local protestors have asserted that the minority Hindu community is being increasingly vulnerable to the targeted violnce in Pakistan. The latest killing, thus testifies spiking atrocities in Pakistan against the minority Hindu community, who are apparently denied with the fundamental right to live. As per the reports, Hindu farmer Kailash Kohli was shot dead on January 4 in Goth Daho, Peeru Lashari, under Tehsil Talhar in Badin district of the Sindh province. The miscreants approached towards Kailash Kohli in a broad day light and swiftly fired two bullets directly pointing towards the chest of the young Hindu farmer, leading to his death on the spot.

The attack and the killing is considered as an impact of the Kaliash Kohli’s public activism towards protecting the minority Hindu rights in Pakistan. The killing also exhibits soaring religious tensions and communal intolerance across Pakistan from Sindh to Balochistan. The protestors who hail from the minority Hindu community in Sindh assert that they live and breathe under the constant fear or threat of targeted violence, enforced disppearnaces, forced abductions, forced conversions, killing and other atrocities. Thus, the demonstrators are currently demanding the immediate arrest of the assailants and are seeking justice. The protestors have blocked the key roadways and are refusing to disperse until transparent investigations are undertaken and the justice is rendered to the deceased victim.

The social media platforms are also flodded with hashtag #JusticeforKailashKohli and the protestors, human rights activists are running online campaign against the atrocities committed on the minority Hindu community in Pakistan. Shiva Kachhi, Chairman of the Minority Rights Organisation in Pakistan asserted the killing of a young Hindu farmer as ‘brutal’ and ‘cold blooded murder’. “We strongly condemn the brutal and cold blooded murder of the innocent Hindu youth Kailash Kohli. The blood of Kailash Kohli demands justice from all of us”, exclaimed Shiva Kacchi.

“We fully ssupport the protest sit-in to be held tomorrow in front of the DC office, Badin, demanding the immediate arrest of the murderer. Will participate tomorrow with full strength and raise a powerful voice for justice for the blood of Kailash Kohli. This is not just the murder of one individual, but an attack on humanity, justice, fundamental rights and the safety of the minorities in Sindh. Our struggle will continue until the perpetrators are brought before the law and justice is served”, Shiva Kacchi further asserted advocating the minority Hindu rights in Pakistan.

The protests are thus burning across the streets of Sindh with spiking anger and frustration among the local residents towards the multiplying targeted violence in Pakistan to which the Hindu community is a major victim. The attack on the minority Hindu community is a recurring pattern in Sindh and other provinces of Pakistan with no sign of de-escalation, as the disoriented and unstable or powerless government in Islamabad remains silent.
