Lakhimpur Kheri: The district administration intervened to halt construction at the Kachari Mosque near the Naurangabad intersection in Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh, following complaints of illegal activity at the site. The situation on the ground became tense as Bharatiya Janata Party leaders and activists from Hindu organisations gathered to oppose the construction.
Officials stated that the mosque is located near the Collectorate in the Lakhimpur Sadar Kotwali area. After receiving information about unauthorized construction, a revenue clerk, accompanied by police personnel, visited the site. During the inspection, it was observed that a wall and additional structures were being built next to the mosque complex, on the side facing a drain.
The clerk ordered an immediate stop to the work and instructed the laborers to leave. Media reports noted that a case had been registered against the mosque for illegal construction about six months ago, but construction had resumed despite this.
The mosque’s muezzin stated that the work was intended to prevent open urination near the drain and provide privacy. However, Hindu organizations rejected this explanation, calling the construction illegal. The administration has halted the work and launched an investigation.
