As hate and crime against the minority Hindu community in Bangladesh continues in an unapologetic manner, another Hindu man was beaten to death in the Kaliganj region. The Hindu shop owner was attacked by a radical mob and was spared to death in an inhuman way. What began as a miniscule argument ended in the death of an innocent Hindu man. The latest violent escalation, has further sparked tensions among the minority Hindu community in Bangladesh who are residing under constant fear and threat since the take over of the country’s administration by the interim government led by its Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus.
In a selective and targeted violence, the Hindu trader and shop owner identified as Liton Chandra Das was beaten to death by the radical groups on January 17, Saturday, when he attempted to defend an employee during a dispute at his shop in Kaliganj. Liton Chandra Das ran a small hotel and a sweet shop in the region. The minor argument between the customers and the employee Ananta Das ultimately led to the death of the Hindu shop owner as he was mercilessly attacked and snubbed by the radical mob.
When Liton Chandra Das intervened in the argument to protect his employee, several people suddenly surrounded him and beat him to death. As per the eye witness, Liton Chandra Das was initially attacked with severe punches and kicks. Later, he was beaten with a shovel. The Hindu shop owner was thus severely injured and died on the spot before any medical aid could be arranged. The latest violence, have further accelerated the uncertainty of life encountered by the Hindu community of Bangladesh under the Yunus administration.
Despite repeated assertion from the Hindu community to conduct thorough investigation and take concrete measures to punish the radical elements and protect the minority Hindu lives, there has been no sound response from the interim government. Hindu lives in Bangladesh are thus hanging in doldrums at the mercy of radical groups as the administration remains silent.
Lately, in a separate incident, another Hindu man named Ripon Saha, who was a fuel station worker was stabbed to death by the radical groups after he stopped a vehicle from leaving the petrol bunk as the person was trying to escape without making the payment. As per the sources, this heinous crime occurred at the Karim Filling Station. These incidents mirror the recurring nature of violence and atrocities targeting the minority Hindu community in Bangladesh with no sign of de-escalation and no concrete action from the Yunus government.
