Kanpur | Tuesday, March 24, 2026 — The historic halls of DAV College, Kanpur, became a confluence of traditional wisdom and modern innovation today as it hosted a national seminar on “Indian Knowledge Tradition: Significance and Scope.” The event brought together some of the country’s most distinguished academic minds to discuss how ancient Indian principles in mathematics, medicine, and philosophy can be integrated into today’s educational and scientific frameworks.
Chief Guest Prof. Manindra Agarwal: “IKS is a Living Science”
In a compelling keynote address, Professor Manindra Agarwal, Director of IIT Kanpur, challenged the notion that the Indian knowledge tradition is merely a relic of the past. “It is a living science,” Agarwal stated.
He highlighted how Indian scholars had mastered complex principles of astronomy, Ayurveda, and mathematics centuries before they were recognized globally. His message to the youth was clear: innovation is most powerful when it is rooted in one’s cultural and intellectual heritage.
The Revolutionary Role of NEP 2020
Professor Vinay Kumar Pathak, Vice-Chancellor of CSJM University, attended as the Guest of Honor. He emphasized that the National Education Policy (NEP) is a “revolutionary step” toward reclaiming India’s identity in the global academic landscape. By making Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) a part of the mainstream curriculum, the policy opens doors for high-level research and global leadership in education.
A Confluence of Scholars
The seminar featured insights from several veteran academics:
-
Prof. Devendra Mishra discussed the unbroken continuity of Indian thought.
-
Prof. Devraj Singh (VBSPU) focused on the scientific dimensions hidden within ancient texts.
-
Prof. Manoj Sharma (Lucknow University) highlighted the philosophical depth of Indian literature.
The program, anchored by Dr. Abhay Saxena and concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. Rajiv Kumar, marks a significant milestone in Kanpur’s journey toward becoming a hub for the “Indianized” modern education movement.
