ECI Set to Transform Voting Experience in 2026 Assembly Polls

Follow us on:

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has officially set the stage for the 2026 General Elections to the Legislative Assemblies of Assam, Kerala, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal. While the political temperature rises, the Commission is focusing its energy on a “voter-first” logistics plan to ensure that the journey from the queue to the voting compartment is as seamless as possible.

ЁЯЫЛя╕П Comfort at the Core: Assured Minimum Facilities (AMF)

Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) have been mandated to equip all 2,18,807 polling stations with a standardized set of comforts. Beyond the basics like drinking water and toilets, the ECI is introducing:

  • Waiting Areas with Shade: To protect voters from the April heat.

  • Queue Management: Benches will be placed at regular intervals, allowing elderly and tired electors to sit while awaiting their turn.

  • Accessibility: Ramps with a specific gradient are now mandatory to ensure PwD electors can navigate the stations independently.

ЁЯУ▒ The “Mobile Deposit” Breakthrough

In a significant shift, the ECI is addressing a common pain point: what to do with your smartphone? For the first time on this scale, mobile phone deposit facilities will be available outside the entrance. Voters can hand over their switched-off devices to designated volunteers and collect them using a token system immediately after casting their vote.

тД╣я╕П Guidance Through Voter Assistance Booths (VABs)

To eliminate confusion at large polling centers, Voter Assistance Booths will be the first point of contact. Staffed by Booth Level Officers (BLOs), these booths will help electors instantly locate their serial number and exact booth, preventing long walks to the wrong line.

ЁЯУЛ Standardized Transparency

Four uniform Voter Facilitation Posters (VFP) will be prominently displayed at every station. These posters will act as a one-stop guide, covering:

  1. Polling Station Details

  2. The List of Candidates

  3. DoтАЩs and Don’ts

  4. Approved Identification Documents

The Commission has warned that these measures are not optional, with strict monitoring in place to ensure compliance across all poll-bound states before the first phase kicks off in April.
