The submarine was accorded a ceremonial reception by the Sri Lanka Navy on\u00a0<strong>02 Aug 24<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">During the visit,\u00a0<strong>the Commanding Officer is scheduled to call on the Commander of the Western Naval Area Rear Admiral WDCU Kumarasinghe, followed by visit and briefing of Sri Lanka Navy personnel onboard<\/strong>. Personnel from High Commission of India in Sri Lanka and Sri Lanka Defence Forces are also scheduled to visit the submarine.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">INS Shalki is a Shishumar class diesel-electric submarine, commissioned into the Indian Navy on\u00a0<strong>07 Feb 1992<\/strong>.\u00a0<strong>This is the first ever submarine to be built in India.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Earlier, Kalvari class submarines INS Karanj and INS Vagir had visited Colombo in Feb 2024 and Jun 2023 (to celebrate International Day of Yoga).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static.pib.gov.in\/WriteReadData\/userfiles\/image\/Pix(1)(1)ODGM.jpeg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static.pib.gov.in\/WriteReadData\/userfiles\/image\/Pix(2)(1)JW3E.jpeg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static.pib.gov.in\/WriteReadData\/userfiles\/image\/Pix(3)(1)HVIK.jpeg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Indian Navy\u2019s submarine INS Shalki, is in Colombo, Sri Lanka on a two day visit.
