The annual rate of inflation based on all India Wholesale Price Index (WPI) number is1.84% (Provisional) for the month of September, 2024(over September, 2023). Positive rate of inflation in September, 2024 is primarily due to increase in prices of food articles, food products, other manufacturing, manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers & semi-trailers, manufacture of machinery & equipment, etc. The index number and inflation rate for the last three months of all commodities and WPI components are given below:<\/p>\n

Month-over-Month Change in Major Groups of WPI:<\/strong><\/p>\n

  1. Primary Articles (Weight 22.62%):-\u00a0<\/strong>The index for this major group increased by 0.41% to 195.7 (provisional) in September, 2024 from 194.9 (provisional) for the month of August, 2024. Prices of minerals (1.83%), non-food articles (1.31%) and food articles (0.86%) increased in September, 2024 as compared to August, 2024. The prices of crude petroleum and natural gas(-5.74%) declined in September, 2024 as compared to August, 2024<\/li>\n
  2. Fuel & Power (Weight 13.15%): –<\/strong>\u00a0The index for this major group declined by 0.81% to 146.9 (provisional) in September, 2024 from 148.1(provisional) for the month of August, 2024. Price of electricity (1.34%) increased and price of mineral oils (-1.72%) decreased in September, 2024 as compared to August, 2024. The index for coal remained constant at 135.6 (provisional) in September, 2024 as compared to August, 2024.<\/li>\n
  3. Manufactured Products (Weight 64.23%):-<\/strong>\u00a0The index for this major group increased by 0.14% to 141.8 (provisional) in September, 2024 from 141.6(provisional) for the month of August, 2024.\u00a0Out of the 22 NIC two-digit groups for manufactured products, 10 groups witnessed an increase in prices, 9 groups witnessed a decrease in prices and 3 groups witnessed no change in prices.\u00a0Some of the important groups that showed month-over-month increase in prices are manufacture of food products; other manufacturing; other non-metallic mineral products; computer, electronic and optical products; wearing apparel etc. Some of the groups that witnessed a decrease in prices are manufacture of basic metals; textiles; motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers; chemicals and chemical products; fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment, etc. in September, 2024 as compared to August, 2024.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    WPI Food Index (Weight 24.38%):\u00a0<\/strong>The Food Index consisting of ‘food articles’ from primary articles group and ‘food product’ from manufactured products group increased from 193.2 in August, 2024 to 195.3 in September, 2024. The annual rate of inflation based on WPI Food Index increased from 3.26% in August, 2024 to 9.47% in September, 2024.<\/p>\n

    Final Index for the month of Jul, 2024 (Base Year: 2011-12=100):\u00a0<\/strong>For the month of July, 2024 the final Wholesale Price Index and inflation rate for ‘All Commodities’ (Base: 2011-12=100) stood at 155.3 and 2.10% respectively. The details of all India Wholesale Price Indices and Rates of Inflation for different commodity groups based on updated figures are at\u00a0Annex I<\/strong>. The Annual rate of Inflation (Y-o-Y) based on WPI for different commodity groups in the last six months is at\u00a0Annex II<\/strong>. WPI for different commodity groups in the last six months is at\u00a0Annex III<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    Response Rate:<\/strong>\u00a0The WPI for September, 2024 has been compiled at a weighted response rate of 86.3percent, while the final figure for July, 2024 is based on the weighted response rate of96.0percent. The provisional figures of WPI will undergo revision as per the revision policy of WPI.     Note:<\/strong>\u00a0DPIIT releases index number of wholesale price in India on monthly basis on 14th of every month (or next working day) with a time lag of two weeks of the reference month, and the index number is compiled with data received from institutional sources and selected manufacturing units across the country. This press release contains WPI (Base Year 2011-12=100) for the month of September 2024 (Provisional), July, 2024 (Final) and other months\/years. Provisional figures of WPI are finalised after 10 weeks (from the month of reference), and then frozen thereafter.<\/p>\n
