The campaign urges the Government of India to classify cancer as a notifiable disease, a much-needed critical step for combating the menace of the disease.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\">Chief Guest\u00a0<strong>Dr I Vani<\/strong>,<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>President,\u00a0ima; and Guest of Honor\u00a0<strong>Dr Murali Mohan<\/strong>,<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Secretary, IMA; inaugurated the nationwide campaign<strong>\u00a0\u2018Unify to Notify\u2019\u00a0<\/strong>on\u00a0<strong>World Cancer Day on\u00a0<\/strong>4th February,<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>being hosted by<strong>\u00a0Apollo Cancer Centres\u00a0<\/strong>in collaboration with<strong>\u00a0Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR); Indian Medical Association (IMA)<\/strong>\u00a0&amp;\u00a0<strong>State Oncology Associations,\u00a0<\/strong>at\u00a0<strong>Apollo Cancer Centres<\/strong>, Apollo Health City Arilova, Visakhapatnam. Also\u00a0<strong>Dr Rakesh Reddy Boya<\/strong>, Senior Medical and Hemato Oncologist, Apollo Cancer Centres, Visakhapatnam;\u00a0<strong>Dr Jayasree<\/strong>, Radiation Oncologist, Apollo Cancer Centres, Visakhapatnam;\u00a0<strong>Dr Ventrapati Pradeep<\/strong>, Medical Oncologist, Apollo Cancer Centres, Visakhapatnam;\u00a0<strong>Dr V.Balakrishna<\/strong>, Medical Superintendent, Apollo Hospitals, Visakhapatnam;\u00a0<strong>Dr Suman Das<\/strong>, Senior Radiation Oncologist, Apollo Cancer Centres, Visakhapatnam;\u00a0<strong>Dr Aditya Narayan<\/strong>, Senior Radiation Oncologist, Apollo Cancer Centres, Visakhapatnam;\u00a0<strong>Dr Brahmaji Naidu<\/strong>, Unit Head, Apollo Cancer Centres, Visakhapatnam; \u00a0graced the occasion.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\">India currently reports over 14 lakhs new cancer cases annually, with the number expected to rise to 15.7 lakhs by 2025. Designating cancer as a notifiable disease will:<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\">\n<li>Ensure real-time data collection and accurate reporting, thereby establishing a clearer picture of the disease&#8217;s scale.<\/li>\n<li>Develop standardized treatment protocols through epidemiological analysis and targeted intervention strategies.<\/li>\n<li>Will enhance, accuracy, efficiency and accessibility in cancer treatment ultimately strengthening India\u2019s role in global oncology research and care<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\">In 2022, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Health and Family Welfare submitted a report to the Rajya Sabha recommending cancer be classified as a notifiable disease.
