Hyderabad, November 4th<\/sup><\/strong>,\u00a02025<\/strong>: Cardiologists at the\u00a0Prasad Hospitals, Nacharam<\/strong>,\u00a0Hyderabad<\/strong>, have successfully treated a rare and life-threatening vascular condition in a 62-year-old male patient called\u00a0Carotid Web,\u00a0<\/strong>a medical condition that obstructs blood flow and potentially lead to recurrent brain strokes.<\/p>\n \n Mr. Gowtham Rama Krishna, a resident of Bengaluru, had approached several hospitals in Bengaluru in June this year, but the Doctors were reluctant to treat the patient. He approached\u00a0Prasad Hospitals<\/strong>,\u00a0Nacharam<\/strong>,\u00a0Hyderabad<\/strong>, after presenting with an\u00a0Ischemic Stroke<\/strong>. The Ischemic stroke is\u00a0caused by a blood clot where the plaque blocks the artery supplying blood to the brain, starving brain tissue of oxygen.<\/p>\n \n To identify the underlying cause, a CT Carotid Angiogram was performed, which revealed the presence of a rare abnormality known as\u00a0Carotid Web<\/strong>,\u00a0<\/strong>in the\u00a0Right Internal Carotid Artery\u00a0<\/strong>(ICA). Further evaluation through Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA), confirmed the diagnosis. DSA is\u00a0a medical imaging technique that uses X-rays and computer to create clear images of blood vessels by subtracting the background tissue. The Cardiology Team at Prasad Hospitals, Nacharam; subsequently performed a Right ICA Carotid Stenting procedure successfully.\u00a0The procedure involved clearing the plaque\u00a0from the carotid artery or the blood vessel supplying blood to the brain.<\/p>\n \n Dr. Sampath<\/strong>, DM (Cardiology); who led the procedure, stated, \u201cCarotid web is a rare but treatable cause of stroke. Early diagnosis and timely intervention can prevent recurrent neurological events. We are glad to have achieved an excellent outcome for the patient<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n \n The procedure which took approximately 2 hours, was uneventful, and the patient remained hemodynamically stable and symptom-free throughout the hospital stay. After a brief period of recovery and observation, the patient was discharged in a stable and satisfactory condition on the day after the procedure.
