It returns with renewed energy inviting Chennai to pause, reconnect, and rediscover the handmade.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Open daily from <strong>11:30 am to 7:30 pm<\/strong>, the bazaar brings together <strong>master artisans, weavers, painters, and craft communities from across India<\/strong>, presenting works that are deeply traditional yet relevant to contemporary life.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Dastkari Haat is not merely a marketplace,it is a <strong>living canvas of India\u2019s cultural memory<\/strong>, where every weave carries lineage, every colour holds history, and every artisan stands as a custodian of tradition.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Visitors will encounter a rich range of <strong>traditional and contemporary crafts<\/strong>, including:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><strong>Textiles &amp; Weaves<\/strong>: Ajrakh block prints, Ikat weaving, Chanderi, Maheshwari, Jamdani, Banarasi weaves, Bandhani, Patteda Anchu, Patola weaving, Gamchha weaving, carpet weaving from Uttar Pradesh and Kashmir, and loom-woven textiles from across the country.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Embroidery &amp; Surface Arts<\/strong>: Chikankari, Kantha, Soof embroidery from Kutch, Crewel embroidery from Kashmir, mud-mirror work from Gujarat.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Traditional Paintings &amp; Art Forms<\/strong>: Pattachitra, Pichhwai, Gond, Kalighat, Godna, Madhubani, Phad paintings, and Shajhi art.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Crafts &amp; Objects<\/strong>: Dhokra, bamboo and cane crafts, wood carving with brass inlay, bone inlay, silver filigree jewellery, terracotta, ceramics, seashell crafts, glass bangles, jute rugs, handmade paper (including elephant-poo paper), toys from Channapatna, and metal crafts from Odisha and West Bengal.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This edition introduces several <strong>exceptional and rare craft practitioners<\/strong>, including:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>A <strong>Pattachitra artist from West Bengal<\/strong> presenting painted scrolls accompanied by traditional songs<\/li>\n<li><strong>Gold-leaf embossed Pichhwais from Rajasthan<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Natural grass baskets and fine mats from West Bengal<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Silver jewellery from Odisha<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Ajrakh block printing from Gujarat<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Pattu weaving from Rajasthan<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Jute durries from Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Adding rhythm and flavour to the bazaar are <strong>Chhau dance performances from West Bengal<\/strong> and <strong>traditional Rajasthani cuisine<\/strong>, making the experience immersive and multisensory.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-60367\" src=\"https:\/\/matribhumisamachar.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Jaya-Jaitly-Founder-and-President-of-DHS-1-184x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"184\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/matribhumisamachar.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Jaya-Jaitly-Founder-and-President-of-DHS-1-184x300.jpeg 184w, https:\/\/matribhumisamachar.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Jaya-Jaitly-Founder-and-President-of-DHS-1.jpeg 612w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 184px) 100vw, 184px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The bazaar will be inaugurated on <strong>30th January 2026 at 5:00 pm<\/strong> by <strong>Ms. Leela Samson<\/strong>, renowned dancer and guru, and a long-standing supporter and friend of <strong>Dastkari Haat Samiti<\/strong>, who has graciously agreed to bless the artisans and the event.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cChennai, after a decade, we are ready,\u201d says <strong>Ms Jaya Jaitly, Founder of Dastkari Haat Samiti<\/strong>. \u201cReady to present, ready to welcome, ready to unfold stories &#8211; slowly, thoughtfully, and with care.\u201d She adds.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This bazaar is meant to be <strong>walked slowly, seen deeply, and remembered long after<\/strong>.
