Hyderabad, 20th February 2026<\/strong>:\u00a0L V Prasad Eye Institute<\/strong>\u00a0(LVPEI) today inaugurated the\u00a0Kalathur Venugopal Reddy Institute of Excellence in Glaucoma<\/strong>, at the Kallam Anji Reddy campus in\u00a0Hyderabad<\/strong>, as part of the program of creating \u201cInstitutes of Excellence and Global Resource Centres<\/strong>\u201d dealing with various major eye conditions. These Institutes act as \u201cGlobal Resource Centres<\/strong>\u201d for that speciality. Headed by Dr Sirisha Senthil, the institute will advance cutting-edge care, education, and research in glaucoma.\u00a0Mrs Mallika Reddy Kalathur<\/strong>, wife of Late\u00a0Mr Kalathur Venugopal Reddy<\/strong>, inaugurated the institute in the presence of family members, marking a pivotal milestone in LVPEI\u2019s commitment to glaucoma care.<\/p>\n The Glaucoma Institute at LVPEI is named \u2018Kalathur Venugopal Reddy Glaucoma Institute<\/strong>\u201d.\u00a0Mr Kalathur Venugopal Reddy<\/strong>, was a self-made entrepreneur whose life was defined by perseverance, integrity, and service to others. He lived with glaucoma and ultimately experienced the loss of sight associated with the disease. The Kalathur family, with Ms Kavitha Kalathur and Mr Ravi Kolli spearheading the efforts, has been supporting LVPEI for over a decade to create awareness and in the treatment of glaucoma. The institute honors both his personal journey with glaucoma and his enduring belief in the importance of care, access, and dignity for all.\u00a0 With this institute, the Kalathur family recommits to the advancement of cutting-edge care, education, and research in glaucoma, in addition to building capacity for the care of glaucoma across India and other developing countries.<\/p>\n Dr Sirisha Senthil<\/strong>, a recent elect to the Chair of the\u00a0Academia Ophthalmologica Internationalis<\/strong>\u00a0(AOI) will head the\u00a0Kalathur Venugopal Reddy Glaucoma Institute<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The Academia Ophthalmologica Internationalis is an elite international body in ophthalmology, comprising a limited membership of only 100 of the world\u2019s most distinguished academicians. Election to the AOI is reserved for individuals who have demonstrated sustained excellence and leadership that has significantly advanced ophthalmic science and care across borders.<\/p>\n Dr Senthil\u2019s work has shaped modern understanding of glaucomatous diseases, especially in the context of childhood glaucomas, secondary angle-closure glaucoma, and complex surgical management. As a clinician-scientist, she has been internationally recognized for her evidence-based approach, widely cited research, compassionate patient care, and dedication to mentoring the next generation of ophthalmologists and clinician\u2011scientists.<\/p>\n With this achievement, LVPEI becomes the only institute in India to have three of its faculty members represented in the AOI. Dr Senthil now joins the esteemed ranks of Dr Gullapalli N Rao and Dr Prashant Garg, who have previously been honored with AOI membership, with Dr N Rao serving as its President earlier. Together, their presence in this global academy reflects LVPEI\u2019s unwavering commitment to excellence in clinical care, visionary leadership, and pathbreaking research that influences ophthalmology worldwide. Dr Sirisha Senthil\u2019s appointment further strengthens LVPEI\u2019s global visibility and reaffirms the institute\u2019s continued contribution to shaping the future of eye care, research translation, and academic thought leadership.<\/p>\n
