Chennai, April 24:<\/strong> The spirit of Carnatic music was alive and thriving at Vani Mahal, T. Nagar, as the Rotary Club of Chennai Carnatic district 3234 hosted the third edition of the Thalir Kala Awards<\/em>, a competition aimed at nurturing young musical talent.<\/p>\n

Bringing together students from schools across the city, the event showcased impressive performances by budding artists, highlighting both skill and passion for classical music. Participants competed in two age groups \u2014 under 12 and 12 to 18 years \u2014 across Vocal and Instrumental categories, including string and wind instruments.<\/p>\n

Rotary club said the initiative is designed to inspire the younger generation to engage with classical traditions. \u201cCarnatic music is not just an art form \u2014 it is a living heritage that must be experienced, practiced, and passed on. Chennai has always been its heartbeat, especially during the Margazhi season. Through initiatives like Thalir Kala Awards, we are not only nurturing talent but shaping the custodians of this legacy for the future,\u201d said Club President Rtn. Arun Mahadevan.<\/p>\n

The competition was judged by senior musicians Dr. Radha Bhaskar and Girija Guruswamy, who praised the high standard of performances. They noted that the confidence and dedication displayed by participants reflect a promising future for Carnatic music.<\/p>\n

Event Chairman Rtn. Chandramouli, speaking later, emphasized the importance of creating sustained opportunities for young artists. He noted that such platforms not only build confidence but also help preserve and promote the classical arts among the next generation.<\/p>\n

Winners were awarded trophies and cash prizes, while all participants received appreciation for their efforts. The Club President Rtn. Arun Mahadevan described the response to this year\u2019s edition as overwhelming and announced that Season 4 will be even larger, with a hybrid format combining online and in-person rounds.<\/p>\n

With growing participation and enthusiasm, the Thalir Kala Awards<\/em> continues to play a key role in encouraging young talent and sustaining Chennai\u2019s rich musical heritage.<\/p>\n
