{"id":7850,"date":"2024-06-17T21:50:52","date_gmt":"2024-06-17T16:20:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/matribhumisamachar.com\/en\/?p=7850"},"modified":"2024-06-17T21:50:52","modified_gmt":"2024-06-17T16:20:52","slug":"dot-takes-action-against-electricity-kyc-update-scam","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/matribhumisamachar.com\/en\/2024\/06\/17\/dot-takes-action-against-electricity-kyc-update-scam\/","title":{"rendered":"DoT takes action against Electricity KYC Update Scam"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has initiated targeted actions to protect citizens in response to reports of fraudulent activities involving mobile numbers in electricity KYC update scams.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static.pib.gov.in\/WriteReadData\/userfiles\/image\/image001WIF7.jpg\" \/><\/strong>\u00a0<strong><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static.pib.gov.in\/WriteReadData\/userfiles\/image\/image0024IA0.jpg\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Here are the key details:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Vigilant and alert citizens have been proactive in reporting of suspected fraud communications via the &#8216;Chakshu-Report Suspected Fraud Communications&#8217; facility on the Sanchar Saathi portal of DoT. This helps the DoT in combating and preventing cybercrimes and financial frauds.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Citizens reported some cases of fraudsters using SMS &amp; WhatsApp messages related to electricity KYC updates and malicious APK files to manipulate and gain control over victims&#8217; devices.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The DoT utilized the Chakshu portal for reporting and analyzing fraudulent activities, initially identifying five suspect numbers. The portal\u2019s AI-driven analysis revealed that 392 handsets linked to 31,740 mobile numbers were involved in such fraudulent activities.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The DoT has directed all Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) for Pan India IMEI based blocking of 392 mobile handsets misused in cybercrime, financial frauds. It also directed them for re-verification of 31,740 mobile connections linked to these mobile handsets.
