Dhami Cabinet approves report on Uniform Civil Code

Lucknow. A cabinet meeting was held on Sunday at the CM residence under the chairmanship of Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. In this, Dhami Cabinet approved the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) report. After this, on February 6, the bill related to UCC will be presented in the Uttarakhand Assembly.

Bill will be presented on 6th February

Let us tell you that Dhami government had called a cabinet meeting at around 6 pm on Sunday evening. UCC draft was presented in the cabinet meeting held at CM residence. After this the Dhami cabinet passed it. Now it will be presented in the assembly session as a bill.

UCC committee was formed

In such a situation, Uttarakhand will become the first state where Uniform Civil Code will be implemented. Let us tell you that there was a demand to bring UCC in Uttarakhand for a long time. On this, the Dhami government formed a five-member committee on 27 May 2022. UCC Committee Chairperson Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai along with the members of the draft committee submitted the report to CM Pushkar Singh Dhami.

These important things about UCC draft

If UCC is implemented in Uttarakhand, then polygamy will be banned in the entire state. Also, girls will get equal share as boys in inheritance. Marriage registration will be mandatory. Both husband and wife will have the same reasons and grounds for divorce. No one will be able to marry again as long as one wife is alive. Declaration of live in relationship will be necessary. Scheduled Tribe people will be out of this law. Uttarakhand will become the first state in the country to adopt it after independence.
