NEW DELHI — On this solemn Monday, March 23, 2026, India pauses to remember the supreme sacrifice of Sardar Bhagat Singh, Shivaram Rajguru, and Sukhdev Thapar. Marking the 95th anniversary of their martyrdom, the day—observed across the country as Shaheed Diwas—has seen an outpouring of gratitude from leadership and citizens alike.

Parliament Pays Homage

In a moving session of the Rajya Sabha, the Chairman led the House in a moment of silence, describing the trio as the “valiant sons of Mother India.” He emphasized that their execution in 1931 was not just a historical date but a “defining moment that awakened the conscience of the nation.” The Chairman urged members to reaffirm their commitment to the constitutional and democratic values these heroes died to protect.

National Tributes

  • PM’s Message: Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid rich tributes, stating that the “unshakable commitment” of these young revolutionaries continues to ignite the spirit of justice and patriotism in millions.

  • Youth Initiatives: Under the theme “Mera Bharat Meri Zimmedari,” the Ministry of Youth Affairs is organizing nationwide Padyatras and digital competitions to connect the modern youth with the revolutionary ideology of the HSRA (Hindustan Socialist Republican Association).

  • Cultural Observances: From floral tributes at the Hussainiwala Memorial to school assemblies across Punjab and Maharashtra, the day is marked by a collective “Inquilab Zindabad” that echoes through the generations.

As the nation reflects on the freedom cherished today, the legacy of these three icons remains a “shining chapter” that serves as a reminder: the price of independence was paid in the prime of youth.
