The PM Internship Scheme 2026 (PMIS) has emerged as India’s largest bridge between academic theory and corporate reality. Orchestrated by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA), the program aims to provide 1 crore youth with high-quality internships in the “Top 500 Companies” of India. As we move through 2026, the scheme has introduced streamlined DBT processes and expanded the list of participating sectors to include green energy and AI-driven manufacturing.

💰 Comprehensive Financial Breakdown

Unlike traditional internships that offer meager pay, the PM Internship Scheme ensures a dignified living allowance. The payment is structured to ensure that companies mentor students without feeling a heavy financial burden, while the government handles the bulk of the support.

Payment Type Amount Frequency Distribution Method
Monthly Stipend ₹5,000 Every Month ₹4,500 (Govt via DBT) + ₹500 (Company)
One-time Joining Grant ₹6,000 Start of Internship Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT)
Total Annual Support ₹66,000 12-Month Period Direct to Aadhaar-linked Bank A/c

Note: While some early drafts suggested a ₹9,000 stipend, the official current notification for the standard rollout maintains the ₹5,000 monthly total to ensure wider coverage across millions of candidates.

👩‍🎓 Eligibility Criteria: Who Can Apply?

The 2026 guidelines emphasize reaching those who are not currently “over-qualified” or already settled in high-paying careers.

  1. Age Group: Applicants must be between 18 and 25 years of age.

  2. Educational Qualification: High school (10th), Higher Secondary (12th), ITI certificate holders, Diploma holders, or Graduates (BA, BSc, BCom, BCA, BBA, etc.) are eligible.

  3. Income Ceiling: The total annual income of the applicant’s family must not exceed ₹8 Lakhs.

  4. Exclusions:

    • Candidates with professional degrees (IIT, IIM, IISER, CA, CS, PhD, MBBS).

    • Those currently enrolled in a full-time regular degree or working a full-time job.

    • Candidates whose family members are permanent government employees.

🛠️ Key Benefits of PMIS 2026

  • Top 500 Companies: Gain experience in giants like Reliance, TATA, HDFC, and Adani.

  • Industry Mentorship: Each intern is assigned a mentor to guide them through 12 months of hands-on training.

  • Certification: Receive a government-recognized certificate that significantly boosts your CV for future job hunts.

  • Skill Alignment: Training is tailored to the “Skill India” mission, focusing on futuristic domains like semiconductor manufacturing and digital logistics.

📝 Step-by-Step Application Process

The entire process is centralized through a single portal to prevent confusion and multiple registrations.

  1. Registration: Visit the Official PM Internship Portal.

  2. e-KYC: Use your Aadhaar and linked mobile number to verify your identity.

  3. Profile Building: Upload your education details and select up to five (5) preferences for location and industry sector.

  5. Selection: Companies will contact you for a brief interview or orientation before issuing the offer letter.
