New Delhi. Saturday, 9 May 2026

The Shramik Card, also widely known as the e-Shram Card, has evolved into the “One-Stop-Solution” for India’s unorganized workforce. By May 2026, the portal has integrated over 31.48 crore workers, offering a unified platform to access 14+ Central and State welfare schemes. This card is no longer just an identity document; it is a digital gateway to financial independence, healthcare, and skill development for laborers, street vendors, and gig workers.

What is the Shramik Card (e-Shram) in 2026?

The Shramik Card is a digitized identity card issued by the Ministry of Labour and Employment. It features a unique 12-digit Universal Account Number (UAN) that remains permanent throughout a worker’s life. In 2026, the scope has expanded to include “Gig and Platform workers” (such as Swiggy/Zomato delivery partners and Ola/Uber drivers), ensuring they are recognized under the Social Security Code.

Top 10 Benefits of Shramik Card 2026

  1. Accident Insurance (PMSBY): Automatic coverage of ₹2,00,000 for accidental death or total permanent disability, and ₹1,00,000 for partial disability. The annual premium of ₹20 is often waived or subsidized for active cardholders.

  2. Guaranteed Monthly Pension: Through the linked PM Shram Yogi Maan-dhan (PM-SYM), workers can secure a pension of ₹3,000 per month after the age of 60.

  3. Maternity Benefits: Financial aid for female workers during pregnancy and childbirth to ensure health and nutrition.

  4. Educational Scholarships: Access to schemes like the Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Shramik Shiksha Sahaayata, providing ₹1,000 to ₹25,000 annually for the education of children.

  5. Healthcare Integration: Direct linkage with Ayushman Bharat (PM-JAY), offering up to ₹5 lakh per year for hospital treatments.

  6. Housing Assistance: Eligibility for the Nirmana Shramik Pakka Ghar Yojana or PMAY, providing loans or grants for house construction.

  7. Marriage Assistance: One-time financial grants for the marriage of a registered worker’s daughter.

  8. Skill Development: Integrated with the Skill India Digital Hub, allowing workers to access free vocational training and certifications to upgrade their trades.

  9. Job Opportunities: Linked with the National Career Service (NCS) portal to help workers find local and national employment based on their registered skills.

  10. Emergency Financial Aid: The database allows the government to transfer direct cash assistance (DBT) instantly during national crises or natural disasters.

To apply for the card, an individual must meet the following:

  • Age: Must be between 16 and 59 years.

  • Sector: Must be an unorganized worker (Construction, Agriculture, Domestic help, Street vending, Gig/Platform work, etc.).

Note: Be aware that “Shramik Card” is often used for both the Central e-Shram card and State Labour Cards (like UPBOCW). While e-Shram is national, State cards may offer additional benefits like cycles or sewing machines. It is highly beneficial to be registered on both if you meet state-specific labor board criteria.
