Chandigarh, September 2026: OYO Hotels and Homes Private Limited (“OYO”) has initiated legal action against Dinesh Kumar of UTR Medicity in Mullanpur seeking ₹50 lakhs in damages and compensation for damaging its reputation and business interests arising from what OYO describes as false, defamatory and disparaging statements circulated through social media and media outlets.
OYO has also terminated with immediate effect its Management Services Agreement with the property.
The termination follows repeated efforts by OYO to have the content removed and to address the underlying matter directly with the property owner. According to the legal notice accessed by the publication, despite being apprised of the contractual and factual position, Dinesh Kumar and his son Ankur Kansal continued to publish and amplify allegations against OYO in social media.
OYO has exercised its contractual rights under the Management Services Agreement, which permits the company to terminate the agreement with immediate effect where an act or omission of the property owner prejudices, damages, or threatens to prejudice or damage OYO’s goodwill or reputation.
OYO rejects allegations concerning rent
OYO has stated that the public allegations of nonpayment of rent are factually incorrect, but Ankur Kansal continued maligning OYO’s reputation on social media.
Separate legal action initiated
OYO has also issued a formal legal notice calling upon the concerned individuals to immediately cease and desist from further publication and dissemination of what the company describes as false and defamatory statements, and to retract and withdraw statements already published.
