Mumbai | April 2, 2026

The wait is over. On the holy occasion of Hanuman Jayanti, director Nitesh Tiwari and producer Namit Malhotra have officially released the first teaser for ‘Rama’—the first installment of the highly anticipated Ramayana trilogy. Spanning 2 minutes and 38 seconds, the teaser has not only shattered viewership records but also revealed a profound connection to Indian cinematic history.

1. The Kapoor Legacy: From Prithviraj to Ranbir

In a rare celestial coincidence of cinema, it has been highlighted that Ranbir Kapoor is following in the footsteps of his great-grandfather, Prithviraj Kapoor. Exactly 92 years ago, in the 1934 film Seeta, Prithviraj Kapoor portrayed the role of Lord Rama. Now, in 2026, Ranbir carries that torch forward, marking a full-circle moment for the “First Family of Bollywood.”

2. Visual Grandeur and the ‘Yash’ Factor

The teaser offers a breathtaking look at Ranbir Kapoor as the Maryada Purushottam, exuding a blend of divine calm and warrior strength. However, it was the final “stinger” that set the internet ablaze:

  • Yash as Ravana: A silhouette of the KGF star standing against the massive, VFX-heavy Pushpak Vimana confirms his role as the formidable antagonist.

  • Sai Pallavi: Shown briefly in a state of meditative grace, her portrayal of Sita is already being hailed for its authentic simplicity.

  • The VFX: Handled by DNEG (8-time Oscar winners), the depiction of the Golden Lanka and the forests of Dandakaranya are being compared to global standards like Avatar and Dune.

3. The $500 Million Symphony

With a reported budget of ₹4,000 crore ($500 million), Rama is officially the most expensive Indian film ever made. The teaser also gave audiences their first taste of the musical collaboration between A.R. Rahman and Hans Zimmer, blending ancient Vedic chants with a cinematic orchestral score.

4. Release Schedule

The makers have confirmed that the saga will be told in two epic parts:

  • Ramayana: Part 1 – Releases November 8, 2026 (Diwali)

  • Ramayana: Part 2 – Releases Diwali 2027
