Bhubaneswar: Gandhi Jayanti was observed at Kalingayana Touryatrikam in collaboration with the Sarvodaya International Trust, Odisha Chapter, with an engaging discussion on the continuing relevance of Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals in contemporary society.
The programme brought together voices from the fields of culture, social service and community engagement to reflect on values that remain central to Gandhi’s philosophy — truth, Ahimsa, compassion, equality and social responsibility.
Smt. Puspita Mishra, Trustee and Signatory of the Sarvodaya International Trust, Odisha Chapter, played a significant role in the programme. Her involvement highlighted the connection between cultural expression, social service and the preservation of Gandhian thought.
Sj. Anshuman Mishra, Founder of Kalingayana Touryatrikam, welcomed the dignitaries and participants. He set the tone for an enriching dialogue, encouraging reflection on how Gandhian principles can remain meaningful in a rapidly changing society.
Trustees of the Sarvodaya International Trust — P. K. Sahoo, Touraj Moghbelpur, Nadia Moghbelpur and Soumyaranjan Mishra — shared their perspectives on taking Gandhian values beyond remembrance and incorporating them into contemporary communities.
The discussion also focused on the importance of introducing younger generations to Gandhi’s philosophy and encouraging values of empathy, peaceful coexistence, equality and responsibility.
The programme concluded with evocative Odissi presentations, adding a powerful cultural dimension to the observance. Among the highlights was “Vaishnava Janato,” choreographed by Guru Smt. Puspita Mishra.
Through music, dance and dialogue, the programme conveyed an enduring message of peace, compassion, harmony and humanity, reminding participants that Gandhi’s ideals continue to inspire meaningful conversations and cultural expression even in contemporary times.
