Chennai, October 2026: At The Table, a new members only Mahjong studio founded by Mahjong enthusiast and author Jharna Sattanathan, is now open in Chennai, offering a dedicated space for enthusiasts to come together over the game and discover a growing community built around shared experiences and meaningful connections.

Moving beyond home hosted Mahjong gatherings, At The Table brings the game into a welcoming, purpose designed setting where players can meet regularly, enjoy a game and connect with like minded people. With dedicated Mahjong tables and tiles ready for play, alongside a coffee kiosk offering beverages and light bites from café partner KUP, the studio combines the pleasure of playing with the warmth of a social gathering.

The idea grew from Jharna’s experience of teaching Mahjong and witnessing how the game brought people together, turning first-time encounters into friendships. At The Table extends this experience to a wider community, welcoming beginners keen to learn the game as well as experienced players looking for a regular place to play and connect.

Beyond daily play sessions and regular classes conducted by Jharna, the studio will host curated mixers, workshops and special gatherings. It will also be available for private bookings, allowing friends, families and corporate groups to organise their own Mahjong parties and celebrations, offering a refreshing alternative to conventional social get togethers.

The studio also offers an annual membership programme that includes table passes and food and beverage vouchers, encouraging members to make Mahjong a regular part of their social lives. Whether dropping in for a game, learning Mahjong for the first time or hosting a gathering, At The Table creates opportunities for people to meet, share experiences and become part of a vibrant community.

“Mahjong has brought so many wonderful people into my life, and I wanted to create a space where others could experience that same sense of connection,” says Jharna Sattanathan. “At The Table is about bringing people together through a shared love for the game, creating a place where they can learn, play, feel at home and build friendships along the way.”

With its focus on community, conversation and the joy of playing together, At The Table brings a new dimension to Chennai’s social scene, creating a space where every game offers the possibility of a new connection.
