Visakhapatnam, 20th December 2024: The Visakhapatnam City Police, in collaboration with Apollo Hospitals, has launched a cutting-edge ambulance service to ensure rapid response and critical care for emergency situations. The service was officially unveiled by Sri Dr. Shanka Brata Bagchi, Police Commissioner of Visakhapatnam City and Additional District Magistrate, at Apollo Health City, Arilova. Sri Ramchandra, COO of Apollo Hospitals, Visakhapatnam, Dr Balakrishna, Medical Superintendent; also graced the occasion, reaffirming the commitment to public health and safety. This initiative marks a significant step towards enhancing emergency medical services in the city, prioritizing the well-being of every citizen.
The alarming rise in road accident fatalities due to delayed medical attention has sparked this transformative response. The newly launched ambulance service aims to provide immediate medical assistance to accident victims, ensuring no life is lost due to delays. Operating across key areas under police jurisdictions including Bheemunipatnam, Anandapuram, PM Palem, Arilova, MVP Colony, and more, the service covers 18 critical zones such as One Town, Gajuwaka, Steel Plant, and Airport.
Sri Dr. Shanka Brata Bagchi speaking on the occasion said, need of the hour in an accident is reaching the accident victim to an hospital at the earliest, that way we can save precious lives and also help in speedy recovery of the patient. We on our part are trying to reduce the number of accidents, simultaneously we want to ensure immediate medical help to those who meet with an accident and reduce the number of accident related deaths. I had appealed to Apollo Hospitals for an ambulance, this ambulance will be stationed here 24/7. A policeman will be with the ambulance on our behalf, he will receive the calls on the toll free number and ensure the reaching of the ambulance at the accident spot, after rendering first aid, CPR etc., to the victim, he will be shifted to the nearest trauma care centre within the golden hour, and provided with lifesaving support, which enables saving a precious life.
The ambulance service made available free of cost, can be accessed through a toll-free number 1066. Upon receiving a call, the nearest ambulance will reach immediately and ensure swift transportation of accident victims to Apollo Hospital, Arilova and Ram Nagar.
This unique ambulance service initiative stands as a beacon of hope for accident victims, bridging the gap between accidents and life-saving care. The 24/7 operational services are designed to provide critical care and timely intervention, saving lives when every second counts, says Sri Ramchandra.
