Uttar Pradesh is transcending its traditional tourism identity. While Ayodhya, Kashi, and Mathura continue to draw record-breaking crowds, the state government has officially pivoted toward a more inclusive spiritual strategy: the Shakti Chakra circuit. This initiative is designed to put 31 lesser-known but spiritually potent Goddess temples on the global map, effectively decentralizing the pilgrimage surge and uplifting border economies.
🔱 What is the Shakti Chakra Circuit?
The “Shakti Chakra” (Power Circle) is a dedicated spiritual corridor linking ancient Devi temples across 31 border districts of Uttar Pradesh. Many of these sites possess deep mythological roots—often linked to the 51 Shaktipeeths or local legends—but have historically lacked the infrastructure to support large-scale tourism.
🛕 Destination Spotlight: The Divine Stops
The circuit integrates temples that serve as spiritual gateways for travelers entering from neighboring states like Uttarakhand, Bihar, and Madhya Pradesh.
| Temple Name | District | Border Connection |
| Shakumbhari Devi | Saharanpur | Uttarakhand/Haryana |
| Jwala Devi Siddhpeeth | Bareilly | Central/Western UP |
| Tara Temple | Mirzapur | Madhya Pradesh |
| Maa Singhwahini Devi | Banda | Bundelkhand Region |
| Indri Dham | Prayagraj | Multi-state access |
| Maa Gullavir | Bahraich | Nepal Border |
| Kali Mata Temple | Lakhimpur Kheri | Terai/Nepal Border |
🚧 The Two-Phase Implementation Plan
The Tourism Department, led by Minister Jaiveer Singh, is executing a “Ready-then-Retail” strategy:
-
Phase 1: Infrastructure Overhaul
The priority is basic pilgrim comfort. This includes widening approach roads, ensuring 24/7 drinking water, modern sanitation, and high-mast lighting. Additionally, the government has allocated funds for Tourist Information Centers at each site to provide digital and physical guidance.
-
Phase 2: Branding & Global Outreach
Once the sites are “pilgrim-ready,” the circuit will be marketed as a holistic package. This involves digital storytelling, participation in international tourism trade fairs, and the creation of “Shakti Tour Packages” similar to the successful models in Naimisharanya and Chitrakoot.
📈 Economic & Cultural Impact
This isn’t just about faith; it’s about the Spiritual Economy. By diverting footfall to these 31 districts, the state aims to:
-
Generate Local Employment: From temple guides to hospitality staff.
-
Promote Handicrafts: Highlighting local art forms unique to these border regions.
-
Infrastructure Growth: Improved roads and lighting benefit local residents as much as the tourists.
