The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) is set to release the official notification for the Combined Graduate Level (CGL) 2026 examination. As one of India’s most competitive exams for Group ‘B’ and ‘C’ central government posts, staying updated with the latest schedule and pattern changes is crucial for aspirants.

Latest Updates & Key Dates (2026 Cycle)

According to the revised SSC Exam Calendar, the notification process has seen slight administrative shifts.

Event Tentative Date
Official Notification Release April 30, 2026
Online Application Window April 30 – May 31, 2026
SSC CGL Tier 1 Exam June – July 2026
SSC CGL Tier 2 Exam To be notified (Expected Sept/Oct)
Expected Vacancies 15,000+ (Across various departments)

Note: Earlier reports suggested a March 31 release; however, official sources now point toward the end of April for the formal advertisement.

The “New Normal” Exam Pattern

Aspirants must note that the SSC CGL pattern underwent significant revisions recently. The Tier 2 stage is no longer just about Maths and English.

Tier 1: The Qualifying Gateway

  • Format: 100 Questions | 200 Marks | 60 Minutes.

  • Sections: Reasoning, GA, Quant, and English (25 questions each).

  • Negative Marking: 0.50 marks.

  • Crucial Tip: Marks are NOT added to the final merit; you only need to clear the cutoff.

Tier 2: The Merit Maker

  • Section I: Mathematical Abilities (30) + Reasoning (30) — 1 hour limit.

  • Section II: English (45) + General Awareness (25) — 1 hour limit.

  • Section III: Computer Knowledge (20) + DEST (Data Entry Test).

  • Negative Marking: 1 mark (much harsher than Tier 1).

6-Month Success Strategy for Beginners

Phase 1: Foundation (Month 1-2)

Focus on Conceptual Clarity.

  • Quant: Master “Percentage” and “Ratio” as they form the base of 70% of the arithmetic syllabus.

  • English: Read an editorial daily to improve comprehension—this is now 35% of the Tier 2 weightage.

  • Reasoning: Solve 50 questions daily on Coding-Decoding and Syllogism.

Phase 2: Speed & Accuracy (Month 3-4)

  • Start taking Sectional Mocks.

  • Focus on high-weightage Advance Maths topics: Geometry, Trigonometry, and Algebra.

  • General Awareness: Cover the last 8 months of Current Affairs. Use the “Static GK” approach for History and Polity.

Phase 3: The Mock Marathon (Month 5-6)

  • Solve at least 2 Full-Length Mocks per week initially, moving to daily mocks in the final month.

  • Note: Don’t just solve; Analyze. Spend 2 hours reviewing every 1-hour mock.

Final Word: Preparation for SSC CGL in 6 months requires a “Mains-First” approach. Since Reasoning and GA are now in Tier 2, treat them with the same respect as Maths and English from Day 1. Stay consistent, and the 2026 vacancy could be yours.
