Mentha (mint) crop cultivation in Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh, a high-profit short-term crop for the 2026 summer season used for peppermint oil export.

New Delhi. Tuesday, 21 April 2026

As of April 2026, the agricultural landscape in Uttar Pradesh has shifted toward Market-Linked Farming and digital compliance. With the mandatory implementation of the Digital Farmer ID (Kisan Pehchan Patra) starting May 2026, farmers must align their crop choices with new subsidy structures and climate-resilient technologies to maximize profits.

1. High-Value Protected Cultivation (Polyhouse Farming)

In 2026, traditional open-field farming is being supplemented by polyhouses to combat extreme heatwaves.

  • Best Crops: Indeterminate Tomatoes, Seedless Cucumbers, and Colored Capsicum.

  • Profit Strategy: Target the “Premium Urban Markets” of Lucknow, Kanpur, and Noida.

  • Financial Tip: The UP government offers up to 50% subsidy via the Horticulture DBT Portal. However, ensure you have a Letter of Intent (LOI) before starting construction to remain eligible.

2. Sugarcane: The ₹400 Quintal Era

The state has officially increased the State Advised Price (SAP) for the 2025-26 crushing season, making it a highly stable cash crop.

  • New Rates: * Early Varieties: ₹400 per quintal.

    • Common Varieties: ₹390 per quintal.

  • Note : Unlike previous years of installment-based payments, the UP cabinet has now mandated one-time lump-sum payments to reduce farmer debt.

3. The “Oilseed Surge” (Mustard & Sunflower)

With India targeting edible oil self-sufficiency, Mustard has become a goldmine in Western and Central UP.

  • Incentive: Massive production targets and increased procurement support.

  • Subsidy: Farmers can avail up to 90% subsidy on solar pumps through the PM-KUSUM scheme, allowing for low-cost irrigation.

4. Floriculture: The Event Industry Boom

Central UP, particularly regions near Lucknow, is seeing a surge in Dutch Roses and Lilium cultivation.

  • Why 2026?: The booming wedding and corporate event industry in UP has created a year-round demand that exceeds local supply.

Key 2026 Corrections & Compliance

  • Digital Farmer ID: From May 2026, subsidized fertilizers and MSP benefits will be strictly linked to your AgriStack Digital ID.

  • KCC Loan Limit: Contrary to older information, the KCC limit has been raised to ₹5 Lakh with modified interest subvention.

  • Drone Revolution: FPOs can now get an 80% subsidy for agricultural drones for precision spraying.
