Varanasi. Saturday, 2 May 2026

In a landmark move to modernize India’s spiritual landscape, the Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple Trust has officially launched its advanced app-based darshan system. Effective from May 1, 2026, this digital initiative aims to eliminate long queues, bridge language gaps, and provide a seamless “Smart Pilgrimage” experience for millions of devotees arriving from across the globe.

A New Era of Digital Devotion

The newly introduced mobile application serves as a virtual gateway to the sacred Dham. By integrating real-time scheduling with personal identification, the temple trust is effectively shifting from manual crowd management to a data-driven approach.

Key Features for Pilgrims:

  • Aadhaar-Linked Registration: To ensure security and authenticity, devotees must register using their Aadhaar number and basic personal details.

  • Time-Slot Management: The app allows users to book specific slots for darshan, special rituals (abhishek), and various Aartis.

  • Sugam Darshan (Queue-less Entry): Building on the “Sugam” concept, the app facilitates a faster entry process, reducing wait times from hours to just minutes.

  • Virtual Reality (VR) Integration: For those unable to travel, the app offers 3D VR technology to experience the five main Aartis (Mangla, Bhog, Sapt Rishi, Sandhya, and Shringaar) from the comfort of their homes.

Breaking Language Barriers

Recognizing Varanasi’s status as a global spiritual hub, CEO Vishva Bhushan Mishra emphasized the system’s ability to categorize pilgrims based on their native language and region.

  • Regional Deployment: Staff members fluent in South Indian, Northeastern, and international languages are being stationed at helpdesks based on real-time app data.

  • Inclusivity: This ensures that non-Hindi speaking devotees can navigate the complex rituals and temple layout with ease and dignity.

Enhanced Safety and Data Insights

The app is not just for the pilgrims; it is a powerful tool for the Temple Administration.

  • Visitor Demographics: Data analysis will help identify the ratio of local vs. outstation devotees, allowing for better resource allocation (security, water, and medical aid).

  • Security Infrastructure: The secure storage of pilgrim data enhances the safety of the temple premises, acting as a deterrent against security threats.
